Moving Towards Our 50th Year as Church in Faithfulness to Christ
(Acts 2:42)
A Golden Jubilee Celebration Event!
The Church of St. Francis Xavier, Petaling Jaya will celebrate its Golden Jubilee on 2nd February 2011. The history of the parish began in 1961 when, as the first Jesuit run parish in Malaysia since the mission of St Francis Xavier in the 1500s, the church was officially blessed and dedicated by His Lordship Rt. Rev. Dominic Vendargon, Bishop of Kuala Lumpur at the 5:30pm Mass on 2nd February 1961.
Over the last 50 years, SFX Church has nurtured a faith community that is nourished by the Eucharist and gone forth to live lives of Loving God, Self, and Neighbour through the BECs and Parish Groups.
In as much as the physical transformation of the church contributes to its beauty, the celebrations for our Golden Jubilee which began early this year, are meant to transfigure our inner reality to be consonant with this external beauty. With this holistic approach, it is hoped that the faithful will be inspired to deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ and become catalysts in helping to translate this vision to a sacramental reality. The manifestation of this inward grace will be a parish community converted from being a ‘talked-about’ church to that of a ‘talking church’ and more importantly a praying one. Luke’s mosaic of the early church as community of the followers of Christ with its four characteristics is an apt ideal of our aspiration for 2011: “These remained faithful to the teaching of the apostles, to the brotherhood , to the breaking of bread and to the prayers” (Acts 2:42)
This is an event to proclaim yourself as an SFX parishioner and to be proud of your heritage as a Catholic, and as a faithful disciple of Christ.
