SFX Grief Support Ministry

‘The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me, he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to comfort those who mourns; to give them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning ‘(Isa 61: 1-3)

Comforting the Bereaved

The Ministry is set up to bring hope and support to those who are deeply suffering for the lost of their loved ones. Our role is to help the bereaved to reconstruct meaning and finding hope in their lives, to trust and take the risk to love again.  We not only bury the dead but to also minister to those who are burdened by the loss.

Unfortunately, many of us deal with the death of our loved ones in different ways, experiencing the pain of grief and sadness of separation in isolation; and often in disbelief and numbness. Support and comfort are administered to the bereaved through the SFX Grief Support group, where members of the ministry are formed to show empathy and compassion to be with the bereaved in their journey of grief. Video aided programs, weekly “support group “to facilitate participants in helping each other in the grieving process. Topics for discussion will include a description of grief to coping with the holidays, anniversaries, disorientation, anger, feeling of abandonment to ways of remembering their loved ones. The bereaved will receive comfort when they are allowed the freedom to express their feelings.

Future undertaking to also extend formation to parishioners on the topic of Grief and loss to better serve BEC’s to help the grief stricken in their communities to cope in their ordeal of mourning and bereavement.  We also endeavour to gather volunteers to offer pastoral visits to the bereaved families, offering support of being present and reaching out to those in need of practical help in adjusting to their life.
