A Fun-Filled SFX Family Day 2019

It was a beautiful Sunday morning on 7 July 2019 when families and friends of SFX gathered at the church basement to celebrate our annual Family Day.  Rev Fr Norris Seenivasan, Parish Priest of St Francis Xavier Church gave a warm welcome address, followed by a short prayer. Fr Norris then declared Family Day 2019 ‘open’ by sounding the traditional gong three times, much to everyone’s delight!

SFX Family Day 2019 Committee Chairman, Paschal Heng, highlighted that this year’s Family Day event has taken on a new format. Specifically, additional seating and a much bigger dining space was allocated to facilitate closer interaction and fellowship among parishioners. Musical performances, sing-alongs and line-dancing were also organized to keep everyone entertained throughout the morning. To add to the carnival-like atmosphere, the committee also set up game stalls at the church field to keep the young and young-at-heart entertained with fun-fair games.

As in previous years, this year’s Family Day kept up the tradition of serving delicious food: from the best nasi lemak to crackling crispy roast pork & roasted chicken rice. Other local favourites were satay, mee siam, popiah, putu mayam as well as homemade cakes and pastries. The more adventurous foodies also had a taste of wild boar curry!  All meals were served on eco-friendly plates.

Parishioners also took the opportunity to shop for potted herbs, plants & flowers, religious items, dried handmade noodles and knick-knacks. The fresh vegetable corner set up by the St Vincent de Paul Society was among the various crowd-pullers. Many walked away with bags of fresh vegetables to share with their loved ones.

The event was made merrier with spectacular dances and musical performances by our various parish ministries and talented RPX (Rumah Pengajian Xavier) boys. The crowd enjoyed a pulsating dance performance by a Michael-Jackson-impersonator, a ‘Give Me Joy’ Action Song by Standard 1 catechism kids, ‘Moses & The Red Sea’ sketch by Form 1 students, line -dancing by our Golden Seniors, a Highland Cultural dance by the  Chin migrant community, and a violin rendition by RCIA.

The “Guess-The-Weight-of the Cake” & “Count the Coffee Beans in the Jar” contests, to help raise funds for our church building maintenance also proved popular. The grand finale was marked by a rousing and spirited Borneo Cultural Dance performance which got everyone dancing to the foot-tapping beat.  Indeed, it was definitely a memorable Family Day for everyone!

A Big Thank You!

The SFX Family Day Committee would like to thank all the generous sponsors, BECs, parish groups, parishioners, visitors and volunteer helpers for their participation and the tremendous support given to our Family Day. A total of RM43, 948 was raised and will be channelled to SFX Youth Ministry and SFX Building Maintenance Fund.
